read more5 things I want from a new biologic medication
Do you ever think about your next biologic rheumatoid arthritis medication? I am on my 6th biologic drug (Rituxan). It is working ok but it is not perfect. If my history tells me anything, it is that the 6th will not be the last. This is 6 Biologic medications in 16 years, so over the years I have averaged just under 3 years on each biologic medication. While that may sound like a lot of unnecessary switching, I need to preface that remark by noting that I used Remicade for 6 ½ years and Cimzia for 6 months, so there has been a wide...

Last week I posted a link to an online survey for RABlog week 2016. I had some terrific responses, and am so grateful for everyone who participated. In total, we had 65 people start the survey, and only five failed to answer all the required questions meaning we have 60 responses. Question 1: Which Badge do you most prefer for use during 2016 RABlog week? The badge contest was not even close; the results were as follows: Badge 1 = 15 votes Badge 2 = 25 votes Badge 3 = 17 votes Badge 4 = 3 votes I think Badge 2 will be a terrific for us to...

September will be here before we know it and with it 2016 RABlog week. But before we get to the event there is some planning needed, and for that reason, I composed our first of what will be at least two surveys this year. The second survey will concern topics for 2016 RABlog week and will be available later in August. Who can participate? Everyone is welcome to participate even if you are not a blogger or intend to blog. This survey is intended for interested readers and bloggers, so all are welcome. read moreBlood Sugars, and Butter Pecan Ice Cream
Recently I had one of those days. You know those days when you do the right things and get the wrong results? This day turned out to be all about doing blood sugars, and Butter Pecan Ice Cream and surprisingly enough it all happened on the way to and inside a big box retailer while I was waiting for a prescription refill. Going Shopping It started on the way; Sheryl was driving and I asked her to stop in the store so I could refill a prescription. It was fine, after all we needed a few things so stopping in made sense for a couple of...
read morePedaling Uphill in High Gear
A few days ago I was riding my bicycle, and I truly felt awful. It was like I was pushing my body beyond what it could achieve; having RA is sometimes like pedaling uphill in high gear. My legs hurt, my bones hurt, my feet hurt, I guess you could say I just plain hurt. This is not surprising as I was about one week away from the Rituxan infusion and I had skipped a week of taking Methotrexate. When one takes those circumstances and add that it was 90 degrees plus when I started my little bicycle adventure; I suppose one could say it was...

This past weekend I participated in the Indiana Tour De Cure to support diabetes research and camps for those under 18 who share diabetes with me. My weekend was filled with bicycles, Diabetes and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). This past weekend it was rainy and a bit chilly as I started off and despite some annoyance from a lingering hip issue I felt pretty good peddling around the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In fact, I had a pretty good day until later when the second act of the story which featured Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) took the...
read moreApology from Dr. Kocherlakota
Last week on day 3 of DBlog week I wrote a post titled “Words and Analogies.” This week I received an apology from Dr. Kocherlakota. In it, I complained that Dr. Narayana Kocherlakota had used poor judgment in using an analogy that the cheap money is like insulin for a person with diabetes. I want readers to know I received a response from Dr. Kocherlakota, and I hope you will read along to see who Dr. Kocherlakota is and what he said in response to my post. Who is Dr. Narayana Kocherlakota? At the outset, I have to acknowledge that...
